Spencertown, New York–Spencertown Academy presents “Tales of the Boatwoman: A Storytelling Performance” by Amber Chand on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00pm. The performance offers an evocative journey into the world of Chand’s ancestors in India and Africa. She will read excerpts from her forthcoming book, “Tales of the Boatwoman,” which blends ancestral stories, creative memoir, and wisdom teachings. General admission tickets ($20 public, $15 Academy members) are available via www.spencertownacademy.org.

“Tales of the Boatwoman” audience members will discover why a passionate elopement turned into an unhappy betrayal; why a black-and-white photograph would change the destiny of a family; and how an ancient Vedic mantra accompanied a young woman on her voyage across the seas.

“Amber is a spellbinding storyteller. Exploring themes of wisdom, beauty, and humanity, she transports us to distant lands through her tales,” says Academy Administrator Eve Zatt. “It will be a lovely way to spend a March afternoon, and we look forward to welcoming her to the Academy.”
