Pittsfield, MA — Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) and Artistic Director, CEO Kate Maguire congratulate Associate Artistic Director David Auburn on the upcoming Broadway revival of his Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award–winning play Proof, which will be co-produced by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama under their production company, Higher Ground.

The production marks the Obamas’ Broadway producing debut and will begin a strictly limited 16-week engagement at the Booth Theatre on March 31, with an official opening night on April 16. Directed by Thomas Kail, the revival stars Ayo Edebiri, Don Cheadle, Samira Wiley and Jin Ha.

Originally premiering in 2000, Proof tells the story of the daughter of a brilliant but troubled mathematician who must prove the authorship of a groundbreaking discovery found among her father’s papers while grappling with questions of legacy, genius and mental illness.

Auburn serves as Associate Artistic Director at Berkshire Theatre Group, where he continues to support new work and artistic development. This summer at BTG, Auburn will direct Lovesong at The Unicorn Theatre, and his play Summer, 1976 will also be presented as part of BTG’s 2026 summer season.

“David’s writing has had a lasting impact on the American theatre,” said Kate Maguire. “We are thrilled to see Proof return to Broadway in this exciting revival and are proud to celebrate David’s continued success as part of the BTG family.”
