ONE NIGHT

The kitchen and porch of a rooming house in a small Midwestern town. The year is 1935. The action takes place over the course of two days.

CAST OF CHARACTERS (3)

TOM – Male, about 25 years old. One of the many penniless men who travel the country after the Great Depression. His clothes are ragged and dusty. His shoes are falling apart and have obvious holes in the soles. There is nothing comedic or cliched about his appearance. He’s smart and good natured despite his circumstances but is tormented by an underlying guilt.

ROSE – Female, about 35 to 45. A pretty Irish widow. She’s barely staying above water by turning her home into a rooming house. She tries to maintain a stern demeanor to cover her sentimentality. Speaks with a brogue.

JACK – Male, about 40 to 60. A rabble-rouser filled with fiery rhetoric and complete devotion to Party ideology. He is literally on his soapbox.
