Lenox— From July 16th through the 26th, Shakespeare & Company presents “Circus & The Bard: A Tempest Tossed,” an original work created by Allyn Burrows, Robin Eldridge, and Pedro Reis, pairing professional circus acts with Shakespeare’s verse.

This season’s “Circus & The Bard” tells the new story of “A Tempest Tossed,” reuniting Shakespeare & Company artists and Spirit of the Circus performers as they perform feats and introduce new, never-before-seen acts. When high-flying feats meet the Bard’s words, sparks fly, laughs abound, and something truly magical happens.

In choosing a fresh direction for this season’s production, Eldridge said she, Burrows, and Reis felt that “The Tempest” was uniquely suited to circus thrills. “On this island of storms, mischief, music, and marvels, our Shakespeare characters and circus artists encounter one another with equal curiosity and wonder,” she said. “Spirits, the pas-de-deux of romance, and acts of grace all find their reflection in the heightened world of the circus, where the body itself becomes capable of poetry.”

Performances run from July 16th through the 26th at Shakespeare & Company’s Tina Packer Playhouse, located at 70 Kemble Street in Lenox. There will be sensory-friendly performances on July 22nd and 23rd. Tickets and more information can be found online.
