CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. — Hubbard Hall Center for the Arts and Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Costello as its Interim Artistic Director, effective July 21. Dan is an accomplished theater artist, composer, gifted educator, director, and arts leader who lives in Cambridge with his family. He will guide artistic programming at the Hall as it begins its next chapter.
As the Board focuses on plans for Hubbard Hall’s long term staff leadership, Dan will oversee preparations for a full season of performances, residencies, and classes — including our continuing celebration of our 40-year relationship with Music from Salem, our artist-in-residence program including a partnership with the Drama League, the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival, youth and teen theater, the annual Holiday Breakfast, fall dance and art classes, and more.
Dan brings a wonderful combination of artistry, energy, and community spirit to this role. He knows and loves this community. Audiences who saw him on our stage recently in Sunday in the Park with George know the excellence he brings to the Hall. We are thrilled that he will lead our artistic programming.

As Interim Artistic Director, Costello will ensure the smooth running of Hubbard Hall’s performances, residencies, and classes; develop and propose new programming across theater, music, dance, film, and the visual arts; and work with the Hall’s board, staff, artists, partner organizations, and community members on fundraising, outreach, and marketing.

As part of the exciting revival of Cambridge’s Main Street, I look forward to building on Hubbard Hall’s remarkable legacy while creating new opportunities for artists, audiences, students, and the entire community.”
Over his career Dan has directed, music-directed, produced, designed, and performed in more than fifty productions, appearing with Capital Repertory Theatre, Syracuse Stage, Playhouse Stage Company, Fort Salem Theater, Hubbard Hall, and other regional companies. He is the writer, composer, and lyricist of ICU, a full-length musical that premiered in a staged reading at Fort Salem Theater in November 2024, supported by funds from a New York State Council on the Arts grant. His immersive children’s play The Forest of Feelings, commissioned by New York City Children’s Theater, has toured throughout New York City, with performances at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, the New York Botanical Garden, and additional venues across upstate New York and Vermont.
Costello is the co-founder and Creative Director of Yo Re Mi, where he has spent more than a decade developing arts-integrated curriculum that uses music, movement, and mindfulness to inspire children, educators, and school communities. Through in-school programming, professional development, and a popular YouTube channel with more than six million views, Yo Re Mi supports thousands of students, families, and educators. A lifelong musician, Costello has released thirteen albums of original music and toured in more than twenty countries. He holds a BFA in Drama from Syracuse University.
