The Fort Salem Theater building has been listed for sale, according to an email announcement tonight from Artistic Director Kyle West, who said the decision came after “much thought” following five seasons of operating the historic venue.
West said he and partner Jared West have overseen a period that brought tens of thousands of audience members to the theater, expanded educational programming and strengthened community involvement. They expressed hope that a future owner will continue the theater’s mission and preserve its role as a cultural destination.
The theater plans to complete its remaining summer schedule, including performances of “Jagged Little Pill,” “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition” Aug. 7-9, and “The Storytelling Project” by New York City’s Life Jacket Theatre Co. on Aug. 15. Those productions will conclude the 2026 season.
Because the timing of a sale is uncertain, ticket sales for events scheduled after August have been suspended. Patrons holding tickets for September through December performances are encouraged to exchange them for remaining summer productions or convert their purchases to concessions, merchandise or donated tickets for community members.
West also noted that previous ticket sales and donations have already been used to support theater operations, including utilities, insurance, maintenance and production expenses.
Until a buyer is found, West said they will continue maintaining the historic building and presenting the remaining August events while working to position Fort Salem Theater for its next chapter.
