Look what we’ve got coming to Bridge Street Theatre between our productions of THE LISBON TRAVIATA and HAPPY DAYS! We’ve snagged a 4-performance run of Ripple Effect Artists‘ recent sold-out Off-Broadway production of Robert Schenkkan’s (Pulitzer Prize winner for his play THE KENTUCKY CYCLE) gripping and timely BUILDING THE WALL. In a eerily recognizable alternate historical present a Black professor named Gloria visits a federal prison to interview Rick, a man awaiting either a sentence of death or life in prison. What unfolds is an exploration of how ordinary people are faced with initially small decisions which, over time, become large decisions that not only affect their lives, but an entire country. The cast features the production’s Off-Broadway stars Cecily Lyn Benjamin and Austin Lightning Carrothers, directed by BST Board member Brent Buell, whose theatre work with inmates in our nation’s prison system was the basis for the film SING SING.
