Due to unexpected cast changes, There Is Hope urgently needs three dependable performers who can join rehearsals immediately:
• Lucy — Lead female, casting range 35–45
• Pauly — Youth role, playing age 10–15
• Female Ensemble #2 — Nine-character track, age 21+
Filling Lucy is the immediate priority.
ABOUT THE PLAY
There Is Hope follows Kevin Seward as he navigates a party while trying—and ultimately failing—to avoid his ex, Lucy. The story moves between the party and flashbacks to their relationship.
REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES
Rehearsals are held Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. until approximately 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. in Troy. Incoming performers must join immediately and catch up on work already completed. Lucy will also require one focused weekly rehearsal for the Kevin-and-Lucy flashbacks, normally on Wednesdays or another mutually workable night.
Tech week runs November 17–19. Full availability for tech week and all performances is required.
• Friday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m.
• Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m.

LUCY
Lucy is a psychiatric-ward head nurse, mother of three, and Kevin’s ex. Although she speaks far less than Kevin, the actress must give her limited dialogue emotional weight and create believable chemistry and history with him.
The role includes choreographed closed-mouth kissing, including an extended comedic kissing sequence. Additional rehearsal time and participation in Kevin-and-Lucy promotional content are required.
PAULY
Open to performers of any gender who can convincingly portray a boy ages 10–15. Performers up to age 18 may be considered.
Pauly is Lucy’s middle child. An unspecified behavioral condition sometimes causes violent outbursts, but he is otherwise a typical kid who enjoys video games. The role includes one safely staged moment in which Pauly punches his own thigh.
A headshot, brief bio, and promotional participation are required. Parent or guardian consent is required for minors, but the guardian will not need to remain throughout rehearsals.
FEMALE ENSEMBLE #1
Open to performers of any gender who are comfortable portraying a track consisting primarily of female-presenting characters, along with one male-presenting character.
The performer plays eight distinct characters and delivers one narration. The role requires versatility and the ability to distinguish the characters through voice, physicality, personality, and costume.
FEMALE ENSEMBLE #2
Open to performers of any gender who are comfortable portraying a track consisting primarily of female-presenting characters, along with some male-presenting characters.
The performer plays nine distinct characters in darkly comedic scenes. The role requires versatility and the ability to distinguish the characters through voice, physicality, personality, and costume. The performer must provide separate costumes for each character.
The track includes safely choreographed physical interaction, including simulated or light contact and helping carry an intoxicated character. A headshot, brief bio, costume proposals, and promotional photographs on each performance date are required.
