Pretty Smart Burlesque draws on the traditions of vaudeville, burlesque and classic variety television while giving contemporary performers room to make the form their own. Each installment features a different curated cast, creating a fresh show rather than a fixed production. Hosted by Ms. Pretty Smart (Olivia Sblendorio), the September lineup features seasoned Seedy Edie, Buck Rider, and Melina Mauve.
Pretty Smart Burlesque is the creation of longtime circus and stage artist Olivia Sblendorio, a former Ringling Bros. flying trapeze artist whose career has included circus, variety performance, international crisis work, and community-based arts. For Sblendorio, the series is about more than burlesque. “I’m interested in what happens when you take the outrageousness, glamour, and spontaneity of old-school variety and bring it to our modern political environment.”
The show is on Wednesday, September 30th at 8 p.m. at ButtonBall Barn, located at 17 Buttonball Lane in Sheffield. There is a pre-show vintage clothing pop-up sale at 7 p.m. Tickets and more information can be found online.
