Confetti Stage announces auditions for its summer production of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” directed by Max Beyer.
A timeless story of trickery, love triangles, and magic, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” sees four Athenians competing for and swapping affections with one another as they are bewitched by the mischievous fairy Puck. Meanwhile, a group of amateur actors rehearse the play which they are to perform before a wedding. Both groups find themselves in a forest inhabited by fairies who manipulate the humans and are engaged in their own domestic intrigue.
Auditions will be held at the Albany Masonic Temple at 67 Corning Place in Albany on May 15 and 16 at 7 PM. Actors are asked to prepare a short monologue from one of Shakespeare’s other plays. It doesn’t need to be memorized. We will have monologues on hand for those who don’t have one prepared. Actors will also be asked to read sides from the script.
This production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be set in an 80’s summer camp (think “Wet Hot American Summer”), and will fittingly be held outdoors at the Shaker Heritage Society on August 5-7 and 11-14. Tech will be held that first week of August and is mandatory for all actors.
