(Dorset, VT– Feb 9, 2024) Dorset Theatre Festival, ahead of announcing its 2024 season of professional summer theater, has announced its 2023 world premiere production of Still by Lia Romeo will make its New York City Off-Broadway premiere this spring in a production by Colt Coeur. Previews are set to begin April 13, 2024, with an official opening on April 18. Adrienne Campbell-Holt returns to direct the limited engagement, which will continue through May 18.
Tony nominee Jayne Atkinson and Emmy nominee Tim Daly will lead the cast as Helen and Mark, respectively, reprising their roles from the play’s acclaimed run at Dorset Theatre Festival this past July. The New York production will also include the artistic team from the Festival’s 2023 production which featured scenic design by Alexander Woodward, costume design by Barbara A. Bell, lighting design by Reza Behjat, and sound design by Hidenori Nakajo.
“Audiences from Southern Vermont and the surrounding region got to share in the magic of this play coming to life on stage for the first time last summer. We hope they feel as proud and honored as we do to have been part of the journey. Lia, Adrienne, Jayne, Tim, and all of the incredible artists who made Still happen are so deserving of this next stage,” said Will Rucker, Executive Artistic Director.
This production comes on the heels of two other plays developed at Dorset Theatre Festival receiving critically acclaimed New York productions. Dig, written and directed by the Festival’s resident playwright, Theresa Rebeck, had its World Premiere in Dorset’s 2019 Season and debuted Off-Broadway at Primary Stages this past August, and I Need That, also by Rebeck and directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, ran on Broadway this past December at the Roundabout Theatre Company starring Danny DeVito, Lucy DeVito, and Ray Anthony Thomas.
“Having such exceptional artists coming to work at the Festival each year draws exciting attention to new plays and playwrights, as well as to our beautiful home here in Dorset. It’s a joy to bring pieces like this to our area and energize our community through exceptional theatre,” said Rucker. “We hear about more and more professional nonprofit theaters closing their doors for good each year. The success of plays like Still is what keeps us motivated to continue investing in our community’s arts economy, as well as contributing to the American theatre on a national level. We must not allow our festival to become a statistic.”
Dorset Theatre Festival is planning to announce the 47th Main Stage Season of professional summer theatre in coming weeks with subscription and membership sales planned to begin in March. Single tickets and accessible ticket programs will be available beginning in April.
