The Show
In this hilarious adaptation of Ferenc Molnár’s classic farce, Play at the Castle, playwright Paul Slade Smith transports us to a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island where the young Oliver Adams is on the brink of success! His debut novel is about to be published, or is it? Add in a Broadway playwrighting power couple, a not-so-innocent ingenue, a dumb but gorgeous leading man, a no-nonsense Eastern European maid and you have an old-school farce perfect for today’s audiences!
Available Roles –
Charlotte Sanders – 40’s to 60’s
· a successful Broadway playwright – quick-witted; resourceful; optimistic; the engine of our play. Wife to Arthur
Oliver Adams – 20’s
· a young novelist – naive; sincere; a romantic, with both the brilliant mind and unwary heart of a poet
Margot Bell – 20’s to early 30’s
· a Broadway singer and actress – easily cast as the sweet and beautiful ingenue, but realizing she’s wiser and stronger than the characters she plays
Victor Pratt – 30’s to 40’s
· a Broadway leading man – and an idiot: impressively self-involved; the handsomest, sexiest, manliest man on Broadway, according to him; always a beat behind
Olga – 40’s to 70’s
· the Housekeeper – a nebulous Eastern European accent, from the Old Country; a proudly uncaring, unhelpful servant; intimidating, if not frightening
The role of Arthur Sanders has been cast.
