January 4 & 5, 2025 at 3pm
Japanese dancer-choreographer Ruri Mito makes her US debut at PS21 with a double bill.
Matou — Ruri Mito (US Premiere)
A solo performance exploring the body as a mysterious, haunted vessel, impressively contorted across multiple forms, impossible to comprehend or observe in its entirety. Kim Dunphy, in the Sydney Morning Herald, called Matou “an extreme sport…a mesmerizing spectacle, ghastly and grueling, but also gorgeous.”
Where We Were Born — Co. Ruri Mito (US Premiere)
In Where We Were Born, Mito continues to scrutinize and explore the body as the defining element of human existence. Performed by the seven dancers of her Co. Ruri Mito, the piece weaves and unravels the delicately and intricately connected dancers, creating one kaleidoscopic body.

What Will Have Been
by Circa (Australia)
Created by Yaron Lifschitz with the Circa Ensemble
Violin by Miranda Cuckson
Three circus artists and fearless, visionary violinist Miranda Cuckson come together in this intimate and deeply moving production by Brisbane-based contemporary circus company Circa.
Hauntingly beautiful and truly virtuosic, What Will Have Been is a sublime display of interlocking bodies, awe-inspiring movement and pure physical beauty. Circa’s intrepid artists will challenge your perceptions of what the human body is capable of, performed to a fusion of the music of Bach played by Cuckson and spine-tingling electronica.
