Living Room Theatre’s “Get It Right” is written and directed by LRT co-founder Randolyn Zinn and is the story of a New York City playwright who rewrites a screenplay for the comeback movie of a washed-up Hollywood star. The story is engaging, with a definite sense of what it’s like for a young woman writer to be uprooted from her normal professional rhythm and tossed into a world she has never experienced.
Valeri Mudek as playwright Ivy Foster is intelligently and authentically out of her element in the Hollywood film world. Matt Dallal as smarmy director Sam, and Richard Howe and Allen McCullough as oily producers Phil and Larry are just as you’d expect them to be and a lot of fun to watch. George Olesky as Billy Mason easily transforms from hot-headed erstwhile action-movie star to a more layered, perceptive actor with a certain amount of depth. Costumes by Cynthia Flynt work well across the board, though the most beautiful and creative ones are reserved for the characters played by Elizabeth Kenney.
The company performs at the Park-McCullough Historic Governor’s Mansion in North Bennington, Vermont and, since the pandemic, has been staging productions outside in the estate’s unused swimming pool, which makes for a unique experience for the audience. Rain will move the show indoors to the Park-McCullough Carriage Barn.
