Berkshire on Stage highly recommends the CapDist Theater Events page!

In “The Wedding Singer,” currently onstage at the Warner Theatre, a wedding singer and a waitress work together at an events venue, are engaged to different people, and fall in love with each other while flanked by a cast of quirky supporting characters including dubious intendeds, an assertive best friend and a bawdy grandmother.

Ron St. John III portrays wedding singer Robbie Hart as genuine and sincere, causing his comedic lines to land that much more poignantly. Julia Nelson’s Julia is sweet and kind-hearted. Katie Locascio as Robbie’s fiancee, Linda, provides powerful, sensual vocals and stage presence, and it’s a pity her character only has two scenes. Paul Donovan-Lietz as Julia’s fiance, Glenn, is appropriately smarmy.

Director/choreographer Travis Kendrick-Castanho keeps his cast constantly on the move, sending them up and down risers and even into the audience; audience members who sit at tables in the front of the theater may find themselves sharing the space with an actor or two, which helps create the impression of attendance at an actual event. Kimberly Jackson’s set is sparse but colorful, focused around a few pivotal pieces that leave ample room for the large cast to move around. Dustin Pfaender’s sound design could benefit from a decrease in volume, as the music often drowns out some of the best jokes.

A silly show with catchy songs and lots of laughter, “The Wedding Singer” plays at the Warner Theatre’s Nancy Marine Studio Theatre, 68 Main St., Torrington, Connecticut, through Sunday, April 26.
