NEW LEBANON, NY—On June 18, 2022, HRC Showcase Theatre will present a staged reading of How We Survived, by Pauline David-Sax. Freyda, a widowed survivor of Nazi Germany, resists filing for survivor benefits on behalf of her late husband. When her frustrated daughter takes matters into her own hands, she unearths evidence of a shocking family secret.
Pauline David-Sax, a playwright, children’s book author and educator, won a Jane Chambers Playwriting Award in 2020 for How We Survived, and was a finalist for the Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women (2020-21). Her debut picture book Everything in its Place is scheduled for publication by Random House in July, 2022.
HRC’s Artistic Director Barbara Waldinger will direct the cast, which includes Eileen Schuyler, Andrew Joffe, Caroline Kera and Isabel Sanchez. A talkback at the conclusion of the reading will feature the playwright, director, and cast.
The reading will start at 7:30 p.m. at The Theater Barn at 654 US-20 in New Lebanon. Suggested donation $20.00. Tickets at tbarn.org or call 518 750 2066.
